Wedding Well Wishes

Stew and I are supposed to be in Roche Harbor this weekend, celebrating the marriage of two of our very best friends. Instead, we are sitting at home impatiently awaiting the arrival of our stubborn baby boy.

Matt and Stewart went to college together, and Matt started dating Alissa right around the time Stew and I started dating, so it was inevitable that we all became fast friends. And we were absolutely thrilled and honored when they finally got engaged and asked us to be members of their wedding party.

Alissa was actually the first person to call me out on my pregnancy, just days after Stew and I had found out ourselves. They had joined us at our lake house for Labor Day weekend, and even though I did my best to hide the situation, Alissa knows me all too well... something must have been up for me to refuse shotgunning beers!

We quickly did the math and realized that my due date would be shortly after the wedding date, but I swore up and down that I'd be there no matter how pregnant I was. I continued with these deluded thoughts until just a few weeks ago, keeping hotel reservations, bridesmaid dresses, tux rentals and shoe orders intact. Until finally it was time to face reality.

Sitting in a car for almost five hours (including a two hour ferry ride) at one centimeter dilated was just not going to happen. Plus, at this point I'm pretty committed to delivering with my doctor at my hospital, which is in a location that our families can reach in a timely manner. I wanted so badly to make the wedding work, but tragically it's just not in the cards for us.

Now, because we didn't go, Baby Boy will likely arrive two weeks late. But had we decided to make the trek up to the islands, Stew would have inevitably been required to deliver our son on a ferry boat... not ideal. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

But the point of this post is to say how truly happy we are for our friends. They are both such amazing people and deserve all the happiness in the world. We could not be more thrilled about the adventures that married life will bring them, and we're so fortunate to be a part of their lives.

We love you guys!

  1. I do not blame you for staying home! I would not want to deliver on a ferry either sadly :( I am sorry you all could not make it however I know they understand..

  2. I'm sure they totally understand why you stayed home and they know you wanted to be there. You have good reasoning why. Tell that baby boy that things are better outside your belly. I know he's warm and all but mommy and daddy can't smother him in kisses if he stays in too long.
