Dear Baby Boy,
You are due in exactly ONE WEEK!
It seems like just yesterday that I was getting that call from the doctor telling me I was officially knocked up. Now here we are, literally just days from meeting each other for the very first time. What an adventure it's been so far...
Today is a sad day because we're supposed to be in the San Juan Islands for Matt and Alissa's wedding. Daddy and I were both supposed to be in the wedding party, and it breaks our hearts not to be there for such an important, once-in-a-lifetime event for some of our very best friends. But sadly I am too exhausted and in too much pain to travel that far, in addition to the fact that I don't feel comfortable being on an island so far away from my doctor right now. So we will spend the weekend thinking of our dear friends, and sending them so much love and well-wishes.
Despite being so crowded in there, you are continuing to grow and are still the size of a watermelon (more than 7 pounds and 20 inches long). Your brain is still developing rapidly, and your skin has taken on a paler shade thanks to a thicker layer of fat around the blood vessels. You are able to flex your limbs, and your nails might extend past your fingertips.
I must admit I'm getting pretty anxious to get you the heck out! But I saw the doctor on Wednesday and she saw no changes from the week before. I am still less than a centimeter dilated and haven't been feeling any contractions, so I think you're still content to stay in there a while longer. Some people say the impatience and discomfort many moms feel around 39 weeks (and beyond) might be nature's way of getting us prepared for delivery, and I think there's some truth to that. I used to be pretty nervous about going into labor, but now I don't care what I have to do; I just don't want to be pregnant anymore!
I've been continuing with prenatal yoga and acupuncture, trying to get things moving, but you seem determined to arrive on your timeline instead of mine. Lack of sleep has left me so exhausted that I've gone down to working only four days a week, which has been nice because Daddy and I get one day a week to spend together, relaxing and nesting.
My team at work has a pool going to guess your due date, and I'm so curious who will win the pot! They also threw me a gorgeous baby shower last week and everyone was so generous... I think now we have everything we could possibly need to keep you happy and healthy. You are one lucky boy!
Let's get this show on the road, little one!
Love Always,
Mommy
