A Surprise Shower!

Have I mentioned before that I'm OCD a planner?

I pride myself on being incredibly organized; I depend on calendars, checklists and schedules to bring order to the chaos that is my life. So I wouldn't generally characterize myself as someone who is a huge fan of surprises.

Typically when someone at our office is expecting, that person's team will plan and host a baby shower. So as the weeks went by and Baby Boy's due date loomed closer and closer, I became increasingly anxious that no one had talked to me about a date for an office baby shower. But of course I couldn't be the selfish jerk who asked about a party for myself, so I kept quiet. But I sure was wondering...

Finally, a few weeks ago, I gave up hope and decided that my team must have chosen to perhaps wait until the baby was born to have a shower (I've heard of this type of thing before -- a shower combined with a baby meet-and-greet). So I began bugging Stew about the fact that we needed to buy out the remainder of our baby registry. He brushed me off day after day, which was extremely frustrating!

Finally I found out why...

Stew showed up at my office about a week and a half ago at the end of the day, and somehow lured me over to a conference room on our floor. There, a group of my co-workers was waiting to throw me an absolutely lovely surprise baby shower! I definitely almost cried.

The room was filled with all my favorite people, delicious food, and absolutely gorgeous decorations. It was clear how much time and energy had been put into the whole thing, and I felt super guilty about ever questioning their intentions. The generosity was overwhelming.

The shower was such a wonderful surprise! And we received so many thoughtful, personal, and beautiful gifts. The food was delicious and it turned into an absolutely wonderful evening. I am so lucky to work for such a wonderful company with such amazing people. I really will miss them while I'm on maternity leave... but not too much!

  1. Aren't they so much fun. Esp when you get what you asked for. Did you play baby shower games? I dont ever see those anymore. Except on A baby story when they have em or 16 and pregnant has em. weird? Like just the width of the belly or whatever. if it's gonna be a girl or boy. names.

  2. Awww! You've had such great showers! I never got to have one with Miller and I can't wait to get the chance to have a few of them if I ever get the chance to have another baby. You look too cute and all pregnant.

  4. Awwwwwwww, how very sweet! (LOL on the comment that you didn't want to be selfish jerk who asked for a party) I can't believe they waited until you were 39 weeks though. That's cutting it so close. I'm glad the surprise didn't prompt you to go into labor ;). I love the decorations, beautiful cake, and what a lovely quilt (gift at the end photo). Congrats! And congrats to Stew who kept it secret and even had to bear your pissed-off-ness when he wouldn't budge on finishing off your registry. Hehe.

  5. Knowing that you aren't a big fan of surprises made it hard to keep this party a secret, but I am glad you enjoyed it so much! All that is left to do now is have that baby so we can meet him!!

  10. I can't begin to tell you how much this entry makes me smile. I always fear not becoming a momma or not having anyone to throw me a baby shower and seeing the ADORABLE decorations with amazing food makes me smile so big! It's good to see so much happiness in an otherwise sometimes dark world. You're going to be a fantastic momma. I can't wait to see your room reveals in your house and your nursery, and I can't wait to meet the adorable baby inside you when you reveal him/her to the world via your blog! :D

  12. That was a nice party! You certainly have an amazing group of work-mates. I love how they chose the baby-blue color theme, which suits the occasion nicely. I hope everything goes fine with the delivery!
