Dear Baby Boy... 20 Weeks

Dear Baby Boy,

Oh, we're halfway there! Oh-oh! Livin' on a prayer!!

That's right my little dumpling, we've made it to 20 weeks, officially halfway through this pregnancy! One morning this week while your daddy was at work I laid in bed with my hand on my stomach and I could feel you moving from the outside! But Daddy hasn't been able to feel it yet, so kick harder in there, my little punter!

Right now you are about the size of a melon or little cantaloupe. You gulp down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And your taste buds work! Studies have shown that after birth, babies respond best to tastes they've already had via amniotic fluid. Which means Mommy needs to start thinking about what I'd like you to eat as I prepare my own lunch!

To be honest, it's been kind of a rough week. I've been fighting a sore throat that your daddy was kind enough to share with me, and I haven't been sleeping well at all. I haven't been to prenatal yoga in two weeks, and I'm tired and stressed about getting ready for the holidays. But we're spending Christmas with your grandparents and I'm so excited! If only I can get everything ready in time for us to head south after the Hawks game on Sunday.

I've been seeing so many adorable things I want to buy you for Christmas, and I'm saving up all my ideas for next year. I saw all the kids lined up to see Santa at the mall yesterday, and I couldn't help imaging what it will be like to do that with you next year. It's strange to think that this Christmas will be the last one your daddy and I will spend "just the two of us." But even now, already, you are so much a part of our lives! Daddy talks to you all the time, and he's always concerned that I am getting enough rest, exercise, and healthy foods to keep you growing strong.

 Happy Holidays, my precious darling!

Love Always,
Mommy

  5. I'm loving your baby bump.. I'm glad that you get to experience the "end" of your pregnancy after the stress of the holidays. Have you tried drinking milk or warm tea before bed? If you go to a coffee shop or look in Target, the Tao Teas have some that are specifically to help for sleep and they're ok for Mommies! Anyway-- YAY for halfway there. XOXO! Bellyrubs for LJ.
