Summer Vacation Part 3 - The Ocean

I took an entire week off work for our family trip this summer, and I wasn't going to let a stupid wildfire ruin my vacation.

Stew and I have been wanting to hit the coast for a while now, and the forecast at Ocean Shores was sunny in the upper 60s. So a little bit of sleep, laundry and a few phone calls later, we were back on the road and headed toward the Pacific.

The 50 degree temperature drop was a bit of a shock, and we never did see anything but overcast, gray skies during our time at the coast, but we put on our big kid pants and made the best of it.

Yes, I am wearing the same clothes the whole time, but that's what happens when you pack for the desert and end up at the freezing ocean. But anyway, you don't really need to be that stylish to ride mopeds, play arcade games and miniature golf, ride horses on the beach, and drink beer in your motel room (because the pool was so nasty I wouldn't even let my dog swim in it).

And we finally made it to the casino! Stew and I won a little money at Black Jack and even convinced Mom to play, and she came out ahead as well!

Oh, and we had some of the most amazing food I've tasted in a while at Bennett's Fish Shack. If you're ever in Ocean Shores do not miss eating here.

It definitely wasn't the family vacation we envisioned or had been planning for a year, but I think we did a pretty good job at making the best of things. And really, I have fun with my fam doing pretty much any old thing, so it's not so much the location that matters, but the people.

I wonder if we can anticipate some sort of refund from Kah-Nee-Ta? Maybe I'll call Carlos and ask. He is Head Pool Boy after all... maybe he can pull some strings.

  1. This looks like so much fun. I didn't comment on the others since I have horrible service up here on our trip but read them all :)

  2. It looks like you made the best of it - which is really good and will create fond memories because everyone pulled together.

    1. Yes, we definitely made the best of it even though things didn't turn out how we planned. I think the worst part was the change in weather... I was planning on getting such a good tan! :-)

  6. I'm glad you made the most of it! I feel like too often I play the sourpuss role and end up ruining what could be a fun time even if it wasn't what I planned. The horse back riding looks fun and you look so much like your mom! Cute!

    1. I'm often that person, too! I'm just such a planner that I have a hard time shifting gears mentally, I guess. But I'm glad this time I was able to suck it up and make the best of the trip!
