Dear Kiley... Three Months

Dear Kiley,

You're three months old, my little angel!

You're growing and changing so much every single day, it's hard to even keep track. You are such a sweet, good little girl, looking bright eyed at the world around you and taking it all in. It's an amazing thing to watch and experience.

Just like we did with your big brother, we've tried as much as possible to continue on with the fun activities that we've always enjoyed, but this time along with you for the ride.

This month it meant taking you to your very first Seattle Mariners baseball game!

We went with our friends Paul, Jessica and baby Caleb, and you were both so well behaved! It was a super fun afternoon out.

You celebrated your very first Easter!

We went down to Nana and Papa's house for a nice quiet family celebration.

You wore an extra special outfit for the occasion — something that used to me mine when I was a little girl!

It was a beautiful day, so you got to spend some time outside in the warm fresh air while big brother Ryder hunted for Easter eggs.

We also had a little celebration at home for Daddy's 36th birthday.

He sure did have a fun day with his little princess.

And on Cinco de Mayo, we also celebrated Ryder's third birthday! You were a very well-behaved little party guest.

At Ryder's birthday party with some of our best friends and your future comrades, Jane and Blakely.

It's still one of our favorite activities to snuggle up with you and take naps — and take photos of each other doing it.

You just look like such a perfect little angel when you're sleeping. I could seriously just gaze at your face for days and days...

Luckily, you're not too picky about where you sleep.

You're known to nap quite frequently in your Pack 'n' Play downstairs, despite the constant chaos your brother creates around it.

Or sitting with Daddy on the couch.

And when you're particularly fussy, I always have lucky wearing you in the baby carrier, which typically lulls you off to dreamland in just minutes.

At night, you still sleep in your bassinet next to our bed.

And sometimes, early in the morning, we all cuddle up in my bed to snooze.

You got to spend some time with the Alway family this month.

Patty came for a visit. She just loves to rock and cuddle you.

Grandpa Russ does, too.

Uncle Patrick even took a turn!

You have started smiling all the time, and we can't get enough of your giggles and coos.

We're entertained by your more serious expressions, too.

Your sweet big brother continues to love and care for you more and more each day. He loves to kiss your head and attempt to calm you when you're fussy.

Unfortunately you've still got a terrible case of cradle cap, which we're treating with special bath washes, gentle exfoliation, and slathering your head with oil under a cap before you go to bed at night. It's getting better...

You absolutely love bath time!

Sleepy after bath and ready for bedtime.

You still seem to like your Soothie pacifiers, so I decided to get you a couple of these popular "WubbaNubs," which have animals attached to them so they don't get lost as easily.

On Wednesdays, we get together with our friends for little Mommy / Baby play dates.

You have lots of fun socializing!

And Mommy has some fun, too.

We tried putting you in your Bumbo chair for the first time, and you were happy for a few minutes before it got too exhausting to hold your little bobble head up anymore.

We also had some extremely heartbreaking news this month. Your Great Grandpa Getchman passed away due to complications from Parkinson's Disease. This happened only two months after we lost your Great Grandma, and the hole left in my heart with them gone is almost more than I can bear.

The last time he saw you, your Great Grandpa just stood there quietly petting your sweet little newborn head. As he stroked you lovingly, he explained to me about all the bones in the human skull, and how I needed to be extra careful with your tiny little head. I'm so glad that you got to spend that special moment with him before he was gone, but it hurts my soul knowing that you will not have these two incredible people in your life. I'll tell you all about them someday...

You continue to grow and change every day.

At your last checkup, you clocked in at 12 pounds, 11.5 ounces (70th percentile), and 22.5 inches (33rd percentile). You received your first big round of immunizations and took them like a champ! You slept most of the day and although you did have a particularly fussy evening you still slept through the night without much difficulty.

During the day, you drink breast milk from Comotomo bottles, and at night you nurse when/if you wake up hungry.

You've continued to be a very good sleeper at night, going to bed around 8:00 and waking up once to nurse quickly before sleeping the rest of the night until 8:00 the next morning. Daytime sleep continues to include short sporadic naps, and I am really looking forward to that hopefully evening out into three predictable naps sometime soon.

We have one more month at home together before I have to go back to work. I can't imagine spending even one entire day away from you, so I'm doing my best to just soak up all these special moments with you while we have them.

I love you and your sweet little cheeks so much I sometimes think my heart will burst with trying to contain it.

Don't grow up too fast, my sweet angel!

  1. Oh my gosh...the picture of you and Kiley sleeping is stunning. She is going to cherish that forever (as will you). And the one where you are kissing her cheek and she has that little smile! She's beautiful - what a fun and busy month!

    1. Aw, thank you! As a mom I feel like it's often hard to show up in photos with your kids, because so often you're the one taking them. Luckily my husband is pretty good at it, so I've got a few nice pics with my kiddos.
