Does This Blog Suck?

I've mentioned before that a lost follower is like a gained pound, and I still feel the same tragic rush of disappointment and rejection each time someone quits reading Life As Always.
I noticed that I lost a couple followers this week, and now I just feel wretched.

I've recognized and acknowledged that this blog has changed a lot throughout the years, and frankly I'm quite happy to leave the dramatic recounting of my drunken mid-20s behind. But maybe immature, emotionally irresponsible dating and theatrical, melodramatic, passive-aggressive friendship drama is what my readers actually enjoyed.

Wedding planning, home buying, pregnancy and parenthood definitely aren't everyone's cup of tea. And I admit that sleep deprivation and the addition of a tiny human who literally sucks the life out of me every day hasn't been enhancing to my creative writing abilities. Sometimes it's all I can do to slap up a couple photos and say, "Here's what we did this weekend."

So can I blame people for un-following me?

Nope, not one bit.

But can I wallow in self-pity and self-doubt about it for a second?

I'm sure gonna.

It's ultimately my responsibility to keep my readers engaged, and if I'm not doing that then I have no one to blame but myself. Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to do about it.

In any case, to those of you who have continued to follow along on our journey throughout all these years...

THANK YOU.

I'm so glad you're here, and whether you read every post, or just stop by once in a while to see if I'm still alive, thanks for sticking around.

  1. No, this blog doesn't suck! I think, if I may say, you are trying to find your new voice. Will this be more like an online journal? Will it have practical baby/family stuff? Will it just be about you? Takes time to find that voice and to build up an audience. I know that's what I experienced over the past few years. My audience has changed, my blog content has changed, and I'm also happy with my audience size and blogging frequency. Just find your happy girl!

  2. Your blog is still great! I enjoy keeping up with you and your fam :) I hate seeing numbers go down too, so I get it- but I just try to remember there's something out there for everyone!

  3. I still love your blog! Maybe those people deleted their accounts, or maybe they just want to see different things on their feed. But no matter what you still have your loyal audience/friends :)

  4. I think your blog is great and I do dad it, I just fail to comment lol. I focus on commenting back on those who comment on mine more so since they are putting forth the effort to comment on mine, it's the least I could do for them lol. I wouldn't take it too seriously, you will gain and lose followers during various stages of your life!

Just curious do you use google analytics to get your stats? I have it, but its so confusing!! I cant even see where it says unique visitors etc...!

  6. I enjoy reading all your posts because I know you and LOVE seeing photos of people and stuff I know, and it's a really fun way to keep up on your life! For people who don't know you personally, I wonder if increasing the posts that have something for them to learn/do might draw more attention. For example, the children's book quiz thing you posted recently was really fun! And I like reading the step-by-step posts, like painting Ryder's nursery, or pumping at work. I also really like the book reviews because they give me ideas of stuff to read. But "what I did this weekend" and restaurant reviews are by nature going to have a more limited audience. Just my $.02!

  9. It does suck to lose readers/followers, (and I have trouble gaining followers, so I'm always wondering about my blog sucking) but ultimately I think it's most important to just blog what you want for yourself, wherever you're at in life, and the best stuff comes out that way.

  10. A blogger friend linked me to your blog. I totally get this. Since having my baby 3 months ago, I've lost followers, and it sucks. It's good to acknowledge that it's a bummer but then ultimately realize that not all blogs are for everyone. Even though I'm secretly like, but HOW could you unfollow me when my baby is the cutest thing that will show up in your feed today? ;)
